In Conversation: My Anxiety Toolkit
Last week, I was honoured to spend the evening at the Shelf Help: Soho House Book club in Chiswick. Not only did I talk about my foodie journey and food that makes me happy, but I also delved a little deeper into how I deal with things when I’m feeling a little overwhelmed or anxious.
Here’s a few of my top tips, that I spoke to my lovely friend Toni Jones of Shelf Help Club about, when I’m in need of a pep talk and find more over on the Shelf Help Club Blog:
Know yourself and listen to yourself. I usually start feeling anxious when I haven’t been looking after myself properly, especially when I’m not getting enough sleep, so I know what to do to make it better.
Don’t let the ‘what-ifs’ or ‘why did/didn’t I do that’ thoughts run riot, and talk kindly to yourself.
THINK IT THROUGH
Think a situation through, right to the end and ask what’s the worst that can happen? It’s usually a lot more manageable than you first feared.
TALK ABOUT IT
I always make sure I have a team of friends on standby to listen and give me pep talks.
DON’T FIGHT IT
Own it. If there’s one area of your life that you are particularly anxious, stressed or OCD about then acknowledge and embrace it.
