Sunshine Spiced Turmeric Chai Granola





This 15 minute Chai & Turmeric Spiced Sunshine Granola is an on the hob job, meaning less hot oven time and more time to enjoy. Have this granola with a big dollop of yoghurt and berries or some shredded apple. Or even grate up a carrot or whip out the ice cream for when the weather is hot to sprinkle on top. Store in upcycled jars and eat within a fortnight. Use up whatever nuts, seeds and flakes you have, anything goes here.

Use whatever spices you have too, don’t feel like you need them all.


  1. In a very large frying pan toast the flakes / oats for a few minutes until golden then pour into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Put the pan back on the hob, turn up the heat and toast nuts and coconut flakes for a few minutes. Then add to the flakes in the bowl, along with the seeds and dried fruit. Chop the fruit if chunky.
  3. Put the pan back on the hob, add the spices and toast them for 1 minute until fragrant then add the butter / oil for another minute to melt, stir and then drizzle into the bowl, along with the maple syrup. I usually take a big spoonful of oats and put them in the pan to soak up any leftover oily spices so nothing is wasted! Stir well, taste for seasoning then leave to cool and transfer to a clean old upcycled jar. Eat within a fortnight.


350g oats/quinoa flakes/buckwheat flakes or a mix
300g mixed seeds flax seeds/chia seeds/sunflower seeds/pumpkin seeds
50g mixed cashews/ walnuts roughly shopped
150g pitted dates/ raisins/ sultanas/cranberries
Handful coconut flakes
80g maple syrup
50g butter or coconut oil
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cardamom from about 8 pods
1/4 tsp cloves or 8 cloves ground up
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
